Today I am in a philosophical mood, even if I can't spell that word. I am just making you suffer, cos you got out playing on the bike and you are going to the GP tomorrow and I have had to work today and I have got to work tomorrow
And its very rare that i drink caffeine
Interesting, I was actually agreeing.... hmmm
I haven't been here all day Ian, I saw the thread and felt I had something valid to say, I aoplogise whole heartedly if that was "going round in circles"... I wasn't misreading, dredging up the past, sulking, crying or anything...but I might do now lolol
Goes back to watching the TV lol
I guess in theory that room etiquette be posted somewhere, but to be honest, who would want to compile the list of abbreviated terms when there are so many and so many variations? Example, ROFL might to one person mean Roll On the Floor Laughing, but to another it might mean Roar out F**kin Laughing...
That's just it cissy, there are STANDARD abbreviations, for the entire net, that are used in chat rooms and forums. Most regular chatters (should) know them. It's when folk start making their own up that confusion starts, or when folk mistakenly translate them. As for ROFL even tho the words are slightly different the meaning is the same, it's when folk use totally different letters, not in the standard list, that makes it confusing to regulars never mind newbies.
Mobile text messages have similar abbreviations, so possibly that could cause confusion on forums and in chat rooms, for example LOL in chat room/forums means Laughing Out Loud, but in a text message also means Lots Of Love.
One of my fave abbreviations, or sign, is the sign for giggle which is <g> but it's rarely used in chat.
Frag thank you for trying to explain what happened to my text/font, it's never happened before, not the explanation the change lol
The T&Cs are never read by anyone, even though they are linked to from many other parts of the site and have a link at the bottom of every page.
If anyone wants a list of abreviations, go to www.bikechat.net (my other site) and there's a button at the bottom of each page you can click on. It opens a new window where u can search abreviations (About 4,000 in the list).
A list of internet standards isn't necessary, most people should know them. One that really annoys me is posting IN CAPITAL LETTERS IN FORUM SUBJECTS. That's why I always comment on the forums I edit, in public so everyone can see. I even start a new topic once in a while to remind everyone.
If I or the mods say remind you of a rule in the forums, then it's so others can see it and learn from your mistake. Only serious misconduct will be dealt with privately.
Basically, no, there's no point writing an enormous list of internet etiquette in the T&Cs. It would take me a long time and would be ignored by everyone anyhow! Nobody ever reads the T&Cs.
FG - Almost every website has the T&Cs at the bottom of the page, as it is here too. It's at the bottom of EVERY page. Also linked to when uploading a photo, writing a PM, etc. I'm not going to put it at the top with the other buttons, as you'll notice there isn't anymore room up there. Plus it's not a "Top Feature" of the website.
Kwak - posts will be edited, even by me, if the size is too big. It's bad internet etiquette and is ugly to see.
Frag - Designing a rich text editor is hard indeed, and relies on a lot of client-side javascripting. Sometimes things will be different on one PC than another when posting messages. Always use the Preview button indeed. Also, I actually have a BOOK on Internet Etiquette! No I never read it, but it just goes to show how complicated the subject is.
My humble apologies Matt... they are indeed!, tbh i never scroll right to the bottom of the page on any website.
Please can i put my foot back in my mouth now??
Matt there are far larger fonts than I've ever used but they've not been edited. First I've heard of it being bad internet etiquette and I've been using the net for many years.
And as for your comment 'nobody ever reads the T & Cs' that must make me a nobody then. lol
