I've noticed the same problem when completing forms on web sites with my surname ...keeps on showing "error" until i remove the hyphen from my surname , i now dont use it between the O'K but i agree i was born with the hyphen and my surname has now been changed because of a technicality ...wtf.
Posh ?? the only posh i know of is Beck's wife if i remember correctly ? being more of a rugby fan an all...guess that will change soon to 'futball' lol
hyphens aren't a problem, they can be considered 'standard' characters. Apostrophes, @, #, $, % and & are really dangerous though.
Ok well done WB... it's only posts you EDIT that double-up. I'm looking into it now
Fixed!
To get around the security issues of apostrophes, we developers double them up before adding into databases. This is supposed to add just one to the database and is a common solution. For some reason the Edit page wasn't working (Even though it was the same code as the normal posts page).
I've changed it to reflect the HTML value instead. Works fine now
Cheers again for the simple explanation why web developers don't like apostrophes in general... I've been bleating about it for years, putting it down to laziness... there are some corners of our pathetic society that are calling for the removal of all apostrophe use as it's "too complicated" to remember where to put them.
WTF?!
Since when did the English language have to pander to the lowest common denominator?
Don't even get me started on spelling and other grammar... This soapbox is moulding itself to the shape of my feet!
This thread has turned out to be one of the funniest recently, but then whenever Wannabe posts I always end up laughing (not at the serious ones tho)
I'll need waterproof clobber if we ever meet, cos I'll PML for real.
Thats sorted out on BM then ..good one Matt! i wish other sites would also make a plan though . I now just dont bother using the hyphen , but spotting the error in the beginning was a mission .
Iv'e been trying to edit/update my profile since arriving in York as it still shows Southend-on-sea as my address , but after 5 or 6 attempts i've given up ...can anyone help please ?
To alter your location go to your profile and click on 'edit profile' then scroll down the page a little and to 'town / city' and delete the text and re-type it. If this doesn't alter it then contact Matt via the home page. Refresh your page before you go to the home page, to see if it has altered it.
