Two of the most successful riders in the history of the Isle of Man TT, John McGuinness and Dave Molyneux, are to have parts of the Mountain Course named after them.
The Isle of Man government is in the process of redesigning and replacing the existing directional boards and mile markers around the course.
McGuinness has 19 TT race victories to his name and his point of the course, to be known as ‘McGuinness’s’ is at ‘Shoughlaigue’, the fast run down from Handley’s Corner before the top of Barregarrow. It's his favourite part of the course and one where he believes he can gain time on his rivals.
‘McGuinness’s’ will feature the artwork that adorns his helmets. Molyneux’s corner is the fast right-hander at the end of Cronk-y-Voddy straight and will now be called ‘Molyneux’s’. As the most successful local competitor by some distance, Island born Molyneux will be also be represented by the Island’s three legs.
The course’s new directional signs retain the now iconic orange background but also include the Mountain Course name and a chequered board pattern.
The original signs that have now been replaced will be available on the auction site eBay together with other memorabilia including the iconic mile markers and the instantly recognisable yellow Shell fuel fillers used up until the mid 1980s.
The event’s organisers have launched their own eBay account under the name ‘eBay iomtt-com’ and it can be viewed by visiting www.iomtt.com and clicking on the ‘TT auction’ button towards the top left of the page.
All items sold will come with certificates of authenticity and the money raised will be invested back into the running of the TT races.
More items will be available after this year’s event.
