A drunk driver with two previous convictions has beenspared jail after leaving a teenager for dead inthe road following a four hour booze session. The driver, thomas scully, was more than twice the limit whe he ploughed into 17 year old biker, michael danials. Scully drove off at speed leaving danials for dead, eventually stopped by a witness 2 miles away.
Danials was riding his yam 125, wearing helmet , protective clothing and hi viz vest when the collision occurred. Suffered broken shoulder and thigh bone and spent two nights in an induced coma. He almost died when his heart stopped beating during a six hour op. He is recovering well
Scully was given a suspended sentence of 18 weeks, suspended for 12 weeks, banned from the road for two yearsand ordered to complete more than 250 hours of community service by magistrates who said the case was one of the worst they had dealt with.
What you have to remember is the goverment dont want them locked up cus it cost about £3,000 a week so thay keep them out and it only costs dole money. and dont forget he cant drive now cus thay banned him for 2 years.
Must have been a touch and go decision as to whether they banged him up. As JPH says, it comes down to spending public money in the end. At least the guy he hit seems to be on the mend.
