It's a self-heating electric waistcoat, product code L42BQ. Runs at 9 volts from AA batteries, so things might get a bit over-warm if you put 12 or 13 volts into it from a bike battery. On the back of an envelope it could be putting out roughly twice the heat at 13 volts than it does at 9. Don't want anyone to boil or fry themselves...but at that price a bit of experimenting might be worthwhile - just be prepared to turn it off quickly if things feel wrong!

Maplin = Nikakki = fire in a jacket lol. I used to work for muppetland and had plenty of time to look at the products. They are safe and carry the CE mark but build quality is a bit dubious in my opinnion. Out of interest which maplin branch did you go to?

The said the heating bit was only at the small of your back when I looked at them............ What good that I'm only cold at my front lol (and no I'd not reverse it "who wants to ride a bike backwards to stay warm TUT..." LOL)

interesting idea. I think your back is warmed because of your spine, probably gets closer to your blood-stream. Plus it's easier to make it fit there. Anyone else got experience with this item? Sounds interesting.

BB ... the jacket you have ... will it fit as an under jacket under a bike one ? Due to the cold I am looking for one that will fit neatly under my bike jacket so I can ride in the cold.

LOL good Idea Julie, Ian got me some hand hotties, you just open em & shake them & they get hot, but you cannot stick them to you. By the way ... I still have your bottle of bubbly from the rally lol

Having tried mine out now for a couple of weeks,It can whilst effective in its job, cost a fortune in batteries, Hence I have now gone and brought re-chargable ones, well worth it.

I got one from Kozeee (via ebay) in the end, ok it was £49 but came with a rechargable battery that has 5 settings ... & lasts 3.5 hours on 5 or 9 hours on 1 ... really good
