US court jails Police chase biker for 25 years

A biker in America has been sentenced to 25 years to life in prison after he was involved in a high-speed chase with California Highway Patrol officers in 2006.

Madera County District Attorney dished out the sentence to William Charles Clerk, after the court heard how he rode at speeds in excess of 140 mph on Highway 99 in Madera and Fresno counties.

Clerk had previous convictions for robbery, auto theft and evading a police officer, the court heard yesterday.

Clerk was sentenced on Monday this week under "Three Strikes And You're Out" guidelines.

The US court's move makes Jack Straw's 'we're gonna get tough and double the maximum jail sentence for dangerous driving' look a bit tame, doesn't it?

To be fair the bloke sounds like he is probably scum anyway, the speeding is irelivant, theyre just after any excuse to bang him up. Fair play.

Could do with a similar system here. If folk refuse to take a fair warning, bang 'em up for ever. There's too many taking the p*** here, knowing they can get away with it

Even if it did. They would go after easy targets to boost figures and real criminals would still be getting off lightly

Way I have been told is if you are in steady full time employment you are more likely to be pushed forward for proscecution and fine by the fiscal office than a low life that has a previous as long as your arm and is unemployed. They cannot pay largefines
