Off to get a set of Avon Storms fitted this morning, ride in,ride out.Internet price £185 fitted (loose wheels) but no centres up near me.Local Honda dealer quoted £240 ride in,ride out.Phoned another dealer/fitting centre and they quoted £215 ride in,ride out.Quite happy at the saving i told my local Honda dealer i was going elsewhere and they dropped their price to £214 ? As i need the bike tonight i booked it in and will drop it off on my way to work in a couple of hours. Now i dont know if i am happy as i will save £26 or peed off as to why they didnt give me this price in the first place.Spent a lot of money in there over the years and think i deserve better ! Just shows how we are shafted by these people without even realising.

unfortunatly thats what shops so, they but these things in nett, double the price normally then see if they can get away with that asking price, then when the customer asks for a better price they move on it........but..if your a regular customer over the years they should of given you the best price to keep your custom and not make you feel like they are trying to shaft you.

Personally I'd have told them to poke it and give them the reason why

Thats fair enough I suppose,if you need em today, you need em. I normally go to a local exhaust centre for my tyres (not quik fit!!) and they always give a good service, ride in,ride out wheels balanced everything for a very reasonable price.

I was very happy with the service National Tyres in Barnsley gave me, on a Saturday morning. Ride in, Ride out, decent price, and in stock. Thanks Geoff for the pointer.

Jock I presume you're willing to pay the £214 regardless. I am also presuming your local dealer doesn't know you need the tyres today? If I was in your position and being the cheeky scottish yorkshireman that I am, I'd ring the local dealer, tell them I'm not happy that they didn't offer me their best price to begin with. I'd then follow this with "if you can do it a bit less then I'll go with you, otherwise I'm going to the others". You'd be surprised how much mark up they make on things like tyres and you'll probably find they offer to do it for £210 or similar. Not a huge saving, but better in your pocket and you've won the moral battle. And if they do dig their heels in and say they can't do it for any less, then you can jokingly come clean and book with them anyway. Ok, they'll know you're a cheeky so and so, but they'll also know that you pay up when needed to and you're not someone to try and rip off in the future. To many dealers, that's the makings of a good and loyal customer.

One last thing I'd say as well Jock, is this could be a good opportunity to start a long term friendship with a local dealer. Such a thing can easily be worth far more than £26. The assistant manager of my local dealer and I have known each other for a very long time. I bought my first ever bike of him, as well as a couple of others. And because of that long term friendship, he has proved very, very useful in the past including nicking parts of new bikes for me when I've needed them urgently, handing me the odd freebie, regular discounts on stuff and has even recently helped my girlfriend out by allowing her to try a few different bikes for size despite knowing that they were all out of her budget. The fella moved half the shop to pull a CBR600 out that was twice her budget, simply so she could see what one felt like. Of course being very helpful like this has worked with her as well. Now if she needs to know how much something costs she says "how much can Bob get it for?" lol

Geoff. Your right as when i went in complaining like the true Welsh/Scotch person i am and stating that this would be the last time i dealt with them (although they knew i was taking the piss) i came away with a new tank protector for a fiver instead of £15.Two cups of coffee where i normally only get one and a grovelling apology. Life feels slightly better now even if my bank account is somewhat lighter.

I was quoted £215 for a rear in Spain nearly fell over. It lasted till I got back home Just. There was a hint of tread left but it was a hot dry day so didnt worry to much £165 for the pair seemed like a much better deal. On a seperate occasion My mate got a nail outside Bransons in Yeovil. Even though they were busy one of there guys took the wheel to a local tyre fitter as they didnt have the right size and fitted it for him as we had a coffee. and only charged for the price of the tyre. I tend to think of them now when Im looking for bits and pieces
