China Imports yes or no?

Hi all, I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with Chinese import bikes. I am considering getting a Skyjet SJ125 to pootle around on till I take my test with a view to letting my son who will be 19 soon take it over when I pass & start riding my SV, mainly because I can get a new one for the same price as a 4 year old Honda or Suzuki 125 & at least I will know what my son is getting for his 1st bike, ie looked after & serviced. I just wondered if anyone has any hints or tips about them, I have already found out I can have it serviced locally & there is a warranty on the parts but not labour. Any advice would be gratefully received

Welcome on board Shell and enjoy the madness that is BikerMatch!
I'm sure Cassie will be along soon. She had (maybe still has) one and had a mixed experience. But if you've got a local mechanic and a warrany that's a good start.

Hi Shell & welcome to the forums

The lady you definitely want to speak to is Cassie... I'll drop her a PM to alert her to your thread.

As far as my understanding goes, they've come a long way in the last few years and it's a lot easier to get parts and servicing.

Happy pootling and best of luck with your test

Thanks, have met Cassie a couple of times when I have been on a ride out with my other half, it was his idea as I now have my own profile to post on here to see what people said. Hopefully it will be good news :-)

Hehehe! I'd have had to type really *really* fast in that case if you've already met Cassie!

The guy I did my CBT with last year reckoned they were well worth checking out... and a friend of his in Essex had just started using Chinese bikes for his students... I reckon if they're good enough for the expected abuse from CBTers, they've got to be good enough for pootling.

But I don't have the money to check out a flipping pushbike at the mo, so what do I know?!

LOL , the one I am looking at is £935 brand new & delivered ok some assembaly needed but I am sure Mr P will be able to help me with that if I ask him nicely & then its £55 to register it with DVLA & £15 for a years tax.

Hi Shell Welcome to BM Good to see you on here.. about time!! lol I have a chinese bike which is '07, its basically the same as the Suzuki GN125 which Stella has. I haven't really had and major problems, just a bit of choke sticking, ( tho I'm not sure if that was my fault..sorry Ziggy ) Although the Whitby ride was a good Shakedown ride for Ziggy, cos all the bits that were loose and needed tightening, either rattled free, or just flew off!! Ask Ian about that! lol But all in all, I think they are pretty good little bikes, the parts seem to be much easier to get hold of now, And some of the cruiser types, the Jinlun or Hyosungs look so much bigger than 125's. I'm sure you won't be disappointed. Hope to see you out and about soon tek care Kaz

Hi Kaz, Thanks for the welcome, I wasn't planning on a profile till I had an email from someone, but its here now Ian did tell me about the trip out, I was working that day so heard all about it when he got home, read your post glad to hear that Ziggy is ok at last, Vinny (my sv) is sat in the garage at the mo waiting for me to pass my test & be able to get on him, little bike is to help me build up & get used to it before I 'go big' lol Hoping to make it to Stella's BBQ & maybe to the ride out on 7th but as its Ians birthday on 6th will depend on our conditions heheh Shell

I think perhaps that telling my employer to "poke it" may possibly preclude my return to his employ *ahem*

If only I'd had the gall to hang in there and force his hand into actually sacking me, rather than fighting back at a cost only to myself when he tried to push me into returning before I got the OK from the quacks.

Never mind. It's all WUB. I'm still less stressed than I was, even with the threat of losing my house hanging over me! (It won't come to that - but they like to keep threatening it so you own up to the thousands of pounds they reckon you have stashed under your mattress)

not had chance to read through all the posts here, so i'm just shuvin my message on at the end... I had a Daelim VS125 as my first bike... it was a pile of crap! Plastic covered in shiny tin-foil to look good which peeled and flaked off. Everything failed. All the nuts and bolts were plastic and threaded off eventually. Fork seals burst every week under normal riding conditions. I can't tell you how disappointed i was in this bike. BUT - it was my first bike, and I loved it for some strange reason lol. Go with a well known brand if you can. Much easier for spares too, so you don't get ripped off by the only dealer in the UK who imports you particular make. Ok, tata
