Just to update you all... I now have the glass-fibre fitted and is running at a sweet 100mbps both ways (woooo hoooo).
The new server cluster is running perfectly also.... and I've been stress testing it at several thousands of page views per minute!
Current problems...
Power issues during electrical storms, keeps killing the power (Overloading)
Network router not fast enough for the glass fibre
Currently running on dynamic IP, preventing DNS config and SMTP mail services
Hard drive array performance issue on main web server
Solutions to the above...
2 new UPS servers arriving in a fortnight and electrician coming next week to investigate
New 2nd router arrives on Monday
Static IP and rDNS being setup by ISP - to be complete next week or this weekend
Replacing firmware and drivers on drive array to main server
Timeframe...
2 weeks for all the above to be fixed
1 week to stress test (may need some volunteers too) and to check stability
Go live approx mid-May
Anyone interested in the cost? Here's a rough overview...

If anyone tells me the site doesn't perform well after this goes live, I'll personally strangle them ;-)
I'm looking into the possibility of video uploads also now, as we have 11TB of datastorage and a fat internet cable hehe
I.ll also agree with dc as my techno or comp knowledge is bordering zero... ( not to bad on e-bay)
I will say its nice to see someone running a site that cares and gets involved though, I,m on a few that dont!!
Blues stop being picky it might stand for universal in Matt's country.
Thought you were busy putting on your new brake pads for tomorrow's mot.
My tyre has stayed at 26 so I am going to risk riding to Matlock tomorrow.
Oops sorry Matt for hijacking your thread, keep up the good work and nice to see our subs are being spent wisely.
XK... not from BM that's for sure
Official bank balance for the websites (inc bikechat) according to my income tax form since the site started...
2006 - £-847.10
2007 - £2,672.63
2008 - £-7688.31 (Most of the new server parts were bought in October)
2009 so far - £-5,835.55 (Not much money coming in this winter, and i had to buy the rest of the new server room from my own pocket)
Now you see why I still have my day-job! I do this for fun (I have to, cos there's bugger-all money coming out of it lol)
The good thing is that for every year that the site makes a loss, the tax-man has to give me money back from the tax I pay from my day-job haha (Which is 42-52% here in Holland)
i put the big google adverts at the top of every page (for non-subscribers) which has helped a little... but its only $100 per week or soemthing, not even that.
I had to spend 4 times as much on google advertising last month compared with march the year before just to keep the new members coming in.
With the economy as it is - nobody is willing to part with even a couple of quid
