Just finished packing, head down for a couple of hours then off to the airport. Three whole weeks in India, riding from Delhi to Amritsar, across the Thar desert and hitting all the tourist traps on the way. I have a 500 Bullet booked, all I have to do is survive long enough to get used to the gearchange being on the other side!!! See you lot in three weeks. night

Third attempt at posting, hopefully I have found a working pc!! Brilliant time in between moments of outright terror, first day riding 40 Km through center of Delhi at rush hour is an experience I'll never forget, lost count of how many times I changed up when going for the back brake!! The Taj Mahal is actually more stunning than the photos which was a wonderful surprise. Sunset from rooftop in Udaipur looking over the lake with the palaces and temples all lit up and with a muezzin calling in the background was awesome. Currently in Jaisalmer with me and bike tucked up in one of the bastions of the fort (converted to hotel). Again sunset over the desert sat on an 11th century parapet with a cold beer and watching kites (bird variety) hovering a few feet away is wonderful. Less wonderful are cities and especially roundabouts I keep thinking everyone should be going the same way round!! Terror highlights to date 40 Km across Delhi traffic, mistiming it and riding last 20 Km into Udaipur in the dark, riding through bazaar in dark, splitting fuel line and running out of petrol in the middle of the Thar desert, being towed 10Km to petrol station behind a three wheeled truck on a four foot rope. Brilliant moments, too many to mention. On balance having a marvellous time!!

Bust It!!

Well I killed an Enfield, got caught in a sandstorm en route to Bikaner, bike started running rough and I found points cover had gone missing. Sand and contact breakers do not play well together, I owe a great deal to whoever invented the multi tool!! Had to adjust points a dozen times to keep bike running long enough to get to Bikaner. Between 40 degree heat and I think over advanced ignition, bike overheated, blew head gasket and most of the oil ended up on my legs. In true Indian fashion both petrol stations in 100 Km had no oil "maybe tomorrow" oh well one of them had petrol at least.
The combination of virtually no oil and sand in what there was has done no favours to the engine. One fun bit though, when points wore away completely I flagged down a tuktuk about 10Km from Bikaner, he sent me an Enfield mechanic who stuck a set of old points in and then led me to the "Bullet Shop", they changed the oil, topped off gearbox oil, cleaned plug, cleaned air filter, cleaned carb, put brand new points in and a new points cover, total cost including call out 500 Rs a fraction over 7 quid!! They then told me not to attempt to ride to Jaipur or Jodhpur as the bike wouldn't make it, they can do a full rebuild here but may take 3 or 4 days to get new bearings. Again full strip and rebuild a little over a hundred quid!! Bike is going back to Delhi via train 12 quid for 600 Km, I am heading off to Amritsar via overnight "sleeper bus", for those of you who haven't travelled in India this is incredibly cheap less than a fiver for 700 Km however sleeper is a bit of a misnomer as even with earplugs to drown out Bollywood soundtrack and nose plugs for the smell of 30 garlic eating vegetarians farting all night the suspension on the buses and state of the roads means regularly being bounced a foot in the air from your metal bunk!!.

For those of you who haven't come across it before look up "Wagah Border" on YouTube, one of the little diversions from Amritsar

Home Again Golden Temple in Amritsar is amazing, incredibly beautiful and free meals as well. The Wagah border is also well worth the visit, it's even sillier than the videos make it look but what you dont get from the videos is the atmosphere with several thousand Indians chanting, singing, dancing and encouraging there side and several thousand Pakistanis on the other side of the fence doing the same and both sides trying to drown out the other. It's like a cross between a kids party and a World cup final!! The trip home was a bit of a nightmare, just short of 24 hours travelling, 4 airports, 3 flights and no sleep. Once the biorythms have caught up I will sort out the photos and upload a few. For anyone who has ever thought about this sort of trip I would say go for it, I had a hell of a time, met a load of interesting people and collected some amazing memories.
