Ok natural gas is now shipped around the globe in a compressed (x600), cooled, liquid form. So - what is "Gas" called when it's a liquid? Will we soon be ordering some electric and liquid?

Errr, LNG. That's Liquefied Natural Gas. Describes it perfectly to me, or have I missed something?

Erm .... no, don't think you have Wills. Matt, the pointy hat with the big D on it is in the corner waiting for you LOL!!!! Don't worry mate, we all look a plonker every now and then. I make a point of saying something daft at least three times a day so that when I put my foot it in by accident no one minds!

"Gas" in this instance is more a term of convenience. Much like you buy a Quarter Pounder™, rather than a quarter-pound burger. Were it to comply with UK legal statutes of sale, you'd be asking for a "113.3981g burger..... with cheese"!!!

lol at you all. But you can't have liquid gas (either LPG or LNG). It's a contradiction of terms. It's either liquid or gas (or solid), never 2 states at the same time.

True, true... but it doesn't stand for "liquid" does it? It stands for "liquefied", which acknowledges that in its natural (& useful) state (at 1 atmos. pressure) it's a gaseous substance and that it's just been forced into a temporary liquid form? That's my theory and I'm sticking to it I'll ask Mr S's cat later...

Wannabe taken the words out of my mouth. I've tried to ask Herr Professor S's cat, but while he's in his box he won't tell me what state he's in...

leave me alone Di! Us guys were born to play with fire, even if it does mean setting your kitchen completely on fire. It was all in a controlled, experimental manner.

Oh I see!!! That's okay then!! Controlled my ******* backside! I was getting a tad concerned you were enquiring about flammable stuff again!

*chortles* I managed to set a grill pan alight many years ago... I had the hump because my sister NEVER used to clean it and for once I decided to just use it without getting rid of all the weeks' worth of fat in it first... durrr... That was very controlled and experimental. My then OH called out from the living room "I think you might've burned the toast, love!" as I was carrying the grill pan outside, flames climbing higher and higher (unable to find a ruddy teatowel to dampen and chuck over it)... so I just called back "Give me a minute & I'll burn the whole kitchen sweetheart!"

Caught a snippet of an article on a R4 prog at lunchtime... Seems you had a perfectly valid point Matt, so I owe you an apology *chokes* They were definitely referring to it as "Liquid gas"... With LPG, the L most definitely stands for Liquefied... but if the awfully proper Radio 4 presenters are using the term "liquid gas" for LNG, it would seem it's in common usage. They're usually quite careful about which terms they use (although they go for the lowest common denominator these days and treat us all like eejits, instead of expecting the eejits to learn something new for a change). *tuts in a disapproving manner* So it's back to the cat thing for the liquid/gas, I guess?

See, i'm really not as stupid as I look. Liquified makes total sense though. Stupid R4, must have been them I got it from (lol, no I don't listen to R4).
