My Beemer got blown over in the recent gales damaging the fairing.Has anyone ever removed the fairing completely and converted to a naked roadster? Is it a big job and what parts are needed. Can i use the headlight from the fairing?Any advice welcome !!
I once had a naked airhead that used to be an RT. I put an RT fairing back on it, then the bike was stolen and the fairing trashed and I rebuilt it as an RS.
From memory it's not a huge job although there are moments when an extra pair of hands might come in useful. You'll need the headlamp brackets and indicators from a naked bike but the headlight itself will swap over. Handlebars from a naked would be better and if you go down that route, then the control cables will have to be replaced.
Best talk it through with someone like Motorworks who can probably supply a kit of the necessary parts or, if you prefer, replacement panels for your damaged fairing. If it's just one panel that's been damaged then that might be the cheapest option.
I'll have a rummage in the garage - I used to have a pair of headlamp brackets, but I'm not sure if I've still got them as I moved on to an oilhead some time ago.
Hi Phil welcome to the BM madhouse. I know someone in Crewe that informed me on Friday that they do fairing repairs. I've got a full set of bodywork being resprayed at the moment. If your interested I can message you the phone number and details ok. Spesh
