Hi Ian...
I can't answer that... but as a Mum, I do have certain control over what my daughter views on the internet...but not complete control either, despite my best efforts. Practically, it is impossible to stand over her 24/7 and I have to put some trust in her judgement.
I think my point was that as adult, there are certain words that I just do not need to see in type. I think it shows respect to other users to simply put a ** in the word, and doen't take a lot of effort, nor would it detract from the joke. (in my humble opinion only of course )
think your self and wannabe are missing the point, on a thread that is for jokes or x rated jokes, i put the idea across so the jokes could be all in one place, and if people want they can leave the blanks in or out, i too try to ploice my two kids surfing on the internet, but as we all have passwords they cant get on this site to surf.
The way i see it if people find Micheal Jackson peado jokes funny and able to post them on here then whats the problem with some swear words? I think peado jokes are far more offensive and to be honest, just sick.
RD: Oooh don't start me on Michael Jackson sick jokes, cos I am sure that has already been debated on here, and I wouldn't want to go round in circles!
personally, I don't have a problem with swear words, it is purely out of respect for others that makes me put the likkle **'s in there...
Ian... I am sure I have missed the point love... a re-occuring problem that despite my best efforts, I cannot seem to overcome
I have spent the last 20 or so odd years disuading my children from using swear words and by and large I think I have done a good job, they never swear in front of me,because they know it makes me cringe!! If we start accepting swear words,( albeit in a joke thread with a warning as to it's content attached,) it "sullies" ( that's a good word! ) the site and lowers the standard to that of other sites!BM is better than that!
here endeth the lesson according to littlechick!
ok so what is happening with this topic, some dont mind the swearing some do, some dont like paedo or sick jokes, some dont mind, some dont want racist jokes, some dont mind, so i think a few jokes none of the above, should be posted and see what happens, or this could go on forever and as u can see i'm already an old man lol. So come on ian your topic u get the ball rolling mate...

IMO if you gotta swear to make the joke funny then it's not a funny joke.
I've been around long enough to have heard most of the explicit jokes there just a play on a theme. Again not that funny.
I dont fancy poughing my way through joke after joke some one has just copied on to push their karma up to find just the odd decent joke.
think your self and wannabe are missing the point,
And you're ignoring what we're saying. We're saying yes to putting a thread up if you want but asking you to please still blank out swear words.
Yes the site is designed for over 18s, but there are no restrictions to anyone gaining access to the forums, you don't even need to be a standard member. They are viewable by anyone.
I often swear in "real life", but I try not to when I'm in mixed company, because I respect that other people might not swear and might not like it.
LC's got it spot on. Why should BM sink to the level of other sites? There are enough sites out there with foul language as the standard. We don't have to join in.
Agrees with LC and WB... swearing seems commonplace on so many sites. I actually like this one, because I do not have to shrink the screen when a nosy child appears to look over my shoulder.
UKHarley: Yep, its called a debate lol..
Anyone can look at the forums without signing in and there is nothing to stop under 18's looking at them. So there's an open opportunity for parents to complain about "those bad ass bikers" again.
Then again,f**k 'em.
I am always complaining about them "bad ass bikers" but they just keep turning up at my house in search of bacon butties/beer/coffee!! My neighbours hate me! and I say fk 'em! heheheh
Surely the point Ian is trying to make is that if the title of the thread reads x rated jokes, it tells people straight away that there is adult content and most likely swear words or for want of a better expression 'near the knuckle stuff', if you dont want to see it dont look in that particularly thread. I can see the point about kids and swear words but am pretty sure doesnt matter how much you try to monitor what your kids view on the net they will see far worse than the occasinoal expletive.
We are all entitled to an opinion and its good to see people expressing it, in a debating manner.
IMO if you find x rated jokes offensive, dont look in the thread, or am i being too simple?
Nope Jackie.... its what we are actually agreeing on! I agreed that putting a warning is a good idea, but maybe keep the swear words out or abbreviated...
The use of swear words in jokes is not always needed but when it calls for a direct quote of a persons displeasure/rage then "plain speaking" is the only way to go.
I for one do not swear very often although have worked on the Docks and building sites, using swear words in normal situations is not what I'm about.
Not a snob but I think that most kids start off using "bad" words for shock value and they hear so repeat, wether that's from perants or peer group. I hate to hear my daughter swear and she regulaly bites her tounge in my companey or appologieses too me.
Think my erm "morals" came from my mum and dad, and I think I've only ever heard my mother swear 3 times in my 46 years lol. And it's only ever being to describe someone or a frustated outburst .
my kids dont swera at all,and i dont moch, we are all seem to be taking this out of context, i am saying lets keep the jokes in one place..............................simples
